Service Description

Ages 14 and older only. No exceptions 5 sessions, Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30 PM June 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 Pre-requisite: Intermediate Wheel Throw and Instructor approval Please note: The registration system will only allow you to book up to the number of AVAILABLE seats. If you can't add more participants, the class maximum has been reached. You will need to look at other dates with more availability. This class has an 8 seat capacity. Must have 4 participants for class to carry. You will be notified in advance if the class is cancelled. Objective: Level up in your skills This course is designed for students who have their own equipment or are considering creating a home studio. Topics discussed: Selling your work Setting up a home studio Loading, unloading and firing an electric kiln. Different kiln types. Types of alternative firings Throwing techniques covered: Teapots Other techniques will be chosen by consensus on day one of class, options include but are not limited to lids, narrow necks, throwing off the hump, sectioned forms, slip trailing, other slip decoration techniques, etc. Firings included: Regular cone 5/6 glaze firings One personal firing in test kiln One alternative firing, type and date TBD by instructor, 5-8 lbs of clay included. *Students who have not taken MPP's beginner and intermediate course must prove readiness for this class with samples of their work. They must be comfortable with throwing larger amounts of clay and basic glazing techniques. Attendance at each session is essential. There will be NO make-up sessions. Supply list (required): Clay (clay not included in this class, except 5-8 lbs for alternative firing) Basic tool set Towel Apron Clear plastic ruler Sharp cutting tool (exacto style or fettling knife) Recommended Tools (optional): -Sponge on a stick -Set of chattering/trimming tools (Amazon-metal with black handles) -Bats or bat system (MPP has a limited supply of bats for student use, having your own is nice, but not necessary) Included: 15 hours of instruction Glazes and firings 5 additional hours of self-guided studio time per week during open studio hours. **I strongly encourage everyone to come in as often as possible and practice the techniques we discuss in class. Practice is the path to successful throwing. There are no shortcuts.** Additional studio hours can be scheduled for $5 per hour. Special Notes: Attendance at each session is essential. There will be NO MAKE-UP sessions.
